Released sometime in 1969.

I also watched Nachts, wenn Dracula erwacht, Jess Franco's version of Dracula, released in Germany a couple of days ago, on April 3, 1970, according to the IMDB. Well, what I really watched is some hybrid version with a French title (Les Nuits de Dracula), Italian credits and an English soundtrack which is either dubbed or a little out of synch. No idea how close it is to the original German release.

April 2, 1970

Today is Thursday, April 2, 1970.

I'm catching up on a couple of things from 1969 I missed when I was on 1969.

Today it's Blue Afternoon Released on a Saturday? One thing I've learned from this project is that in the old days albums were not all released on Tuesday as they are now, and movies didn't always premiere on Fridays as they nearly always do now. But a Saturday release date still seems a little strange. Anyway, I guess the Mountain album was released sometime around now because there's an ad for it in a March issue of Rolling Stone.

March 6, 1970

Today is Friday, March 6, 1970.

Today the Beatles' "Let It Be"/"You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)" single was released in the UK, according to multiple sources. Usually singles aren't included in my listening project because rock had entered the album age by the 70s, and most singles ended up on albums, but it wouldn't feel right to let the date "Let It Be" was released pass by without acknowledgment and listening.

Also released today was Psychedelic Shack by the Temptations, according to the album's Wikipedia article. Napster doesn't have it, but I pieced together six of the eight tracks from compilations and substituted the single version of the song, "It's Summer" for the album version.

Also released on this music-heavy date was the Charles Manson album, LIE: The Love & Terror Cult, according to the album's Wikipedia article.

One of my rules is one album per day, so I decided to go with the Temptations.

March 5, 1970

Today is Thursday, March 5, 1970.

I'm listening to Atomic Roooster (sic) by Atomic Rooster. The All Music Guide just says that this was released sometime in 1970, but there's an ad for the album in Rolling Stone 53, printed Feb. 11, 1970, so I'm inferring that it was released around then, or at least that it was available in stores around then. That is, I probably could've walked into a store and bought this on Feb. 16, 1970, and it probably would've been on the "new releases" rack, if there was such a thing in record stores in 1970.

February 15, 1970

Today is Sunday, February 15, 1970.

I've worked through my backlog of albums released at some indeterminate point (indeterminate to me at least) in January 1970, so it's time to hit the backlog of things released at some indeterminate point (to me at least) in 1969.

Today's selection is The Yellow Princess by John Fahey. On that version, the first track on side 2 was "Evil Woman." I'm listening to the American version, the one with "Wicked World" instead of "Evil Woman." That wasn't released until May 1970. I would be happy to purchase an mp3 of "Evil Woman" and substitute it for "Wicked World" in my mp3 player, but it's not available from Amazon. Maybe itunes has it but I don't have an ipod. So I'll just have to skip "Wicked World" and imagine "Evil Woman" when I listen to this album until I get to May.

I can't help noticing the coincidence that I have reached the release date of this album on Walpurgisnacht.

Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan on Walpurgisnacht 1966.

February 11, 1970

Today is Wednesday, February 11, 1970.

If anything was released today specifically, I don't know about it, so I'm listening to Kool & the Gang, the first Kool & the Gang album, probably released either Jan. 1970 or Dec. 1969 (Wikipedia entry says the former; several other sources say the latter.)
